| Want to Help NOW? Dear Friend: What does a three-year old sexually abused by his uncle, an EIU student stalked by a neighbor, a woman sexually assaulted when walking to a car after shopping, and an elderly woman sexually assaulted during a home invasion have in common? All have received services from the Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Service (SACIS). SACIS is a not-for-profit social service agency that was established in 1977 to provide counseling and advocacy services to people who have experienced sexual victimization and to their significant others. The SACIS office located in Charleston serves residents of Coles and Cumberland Counties. People of all ages from pre-school through senior citizens are eligible for services. We offer a 24-hour hotline, counseling, medical and legal advocacy, and educational programs for schools, organizations, and the community. Also provided are professional training programs for area professionals, information and referrals, and institutional advocacy. All the services are free of charge through state and federal grants. SACIS needs your help to continue to provide these services. The agency has suffered from the state and federal budget cuts. The state cut 27% in grant funding during the last two years, and federal stimulus money will end in June. Helping SACIS is easy. We have four large events during the year and are working on a calendar for 2012. The first event is Shake It For SACIS where people come to learn different types of dance. It is held at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Education Wing. The second and third events are the Used Book, Purse, and Scarf sales that occur, once in Mattoon and once in Charleston. The fourth event is the annual Take Back the Night March (TBTN) that occurs at the EIU campus pond pavilion in early fall. All events are well attended. Attached is a sponsorship form where you can choose to sponsor specific events or sponsor SACIS for a full year through all the events. Please consider helping to keep SACIS in operation. SACIS also accepts non-financial donations of office supplies. If you would like to help survivors of sexual violence, please fill out the form, and send it back with a check made payable to:SACIS P.O Box 858 Charleston, IL 61920.
