VOLUNTEER ADVOCATE
Volunteer Advocates run the 24-hour hotline on nights and weekends, providing immediate contact, information, assistance and support to victims and significant others.
Volunteer Advocates are required to complete 40 hours of training through SACIS. Upon completion volunteers may begin carrying a pager and providing legal/medical advocacy and crisis intervention to sexual assault/abuse victims and their significant others.
Volunteers provide assistance with special fundraising and community awareness events during the year.
Internships are available only after completion of the 40 hour volunteer training.
VOLUNTEER TRAINING BEGINS IN THE FALL...
We will be offering our FREE 40-hour training this fall! Training typicall begins late in September. If you are interested in participating in our volunteer training, please contact the SACIS office as soon as possible. Spaces are limited and we are sure that you will not want to miss this valuable opportunity. We are now in the process of reserving dates for our training, however, no dates have been finalized yet. We do know that we will not have classes on weekends that EIU is planning events such as Homecoming, Fall Break or Parents' Weekend. If you are interested in signing up for our Volunteer training this fall, please fill out this form and we will email a copy of the schedule/syllabus as soon as it is available. If this training schedule works with your schedule, please contact the SACIS office @ 348-5033, in order to set up a time to meet with us prior to the start of the training to complete a brief volunteer interview.
